Placement test
Before starting the course, you must take the placement test (listening comprehension and writing comprehension).
If for any reason you cannot take the test online, you will be able to take it on the first day of class, at 8:45 a.m. The test is included within the course sessions.
If the result of the test does not match your actual level, you can change classes within the first three days of the course after having consulted your teacher or the Head of Studies.
A1 level students (Initial) should start classes during the first week of each course.
In this link you can find more information about the Spanish language levels.
Place where classes are taught
The headquarters of the Colegio de España is located at Calle Compañía nº 65, 37002 in Salamanca although, for organizational reasons and, during the busiest months, classes may be held in other facilities outside the School. In this case, we will notify you in advance.
Schedule, duration and class attendance
Classes are taught from Monday to Friday, generally in the morning (from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. or from 9.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.). The School reserves the right to make changes to the class schedule if necessary, on your first day of class we will inform you on your schedule and the extra-curricular activities that will take place during your stay.
The class sessions lasts 50 minutes so you’ll enjoy several breaks where you can interact with your classmates and practice what you’ve learned in class.
We remind you that attendance and punctuality will be controlled by your teacher and the absences will be deducted from the total hours on the Certificate of Attendance.
Number of students per class
The classes at our school have reduced groups. The average number of students per class is 7-8, the maximum number is 12.
Teaching Materials
The books and materials used in our Spanish Language classes have been carefully selected to ensure their maximum use during the course.
At each level, one main coursebook is used: Método Anaya ELE (Edelsa). We also use other materials created by the teachers at our school (Exercise Booklet), as well as other carefully selected materials such as comics, postcards, photos, posters, official prints, contracts, brochures, short films, etc.
These materials enrich the learning process and support a practical, communicative approach, allowing students to apply the language in real-life contexts from day one.
On the first day, we will give you the material that you will use in your Spanish classes.
The price of the books is not included in the course fee (27€ approximately).
Academic and Technological Resources
The school also has the technical resources needed to support both teaching and academic activities, such as a digital whiteboard, projectors, CD players, laptops, and a photocopier.
These technological resources help make classes more dynamic and improve the student’s learning experience.
Teaching Methodology
Our courses, adapted to the needs of each student, follow a methodology oriented to communicative action in which the student is the protagonist.
In our Spanish classes, we strive to stimulate your interest in learning, as well as help you to develop your communicative capacity by performing motivating tasks and dynamic classes that put you in touch with everyday life.
Teachers manage to create a relaxed class environment in which they foster interest in work, mutual support, friendliness, empathy, respect, and interaction among students, as well as an appreciation for different languages and cultures.
In this way, our students progress not only in learning Spanish, but also in gaining a deeper understanding of the countries where it is spoken and their cultures, as well as in communicating effectively with native speakers.
Our courses follow the levels established by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), ensuring a structured and internationally recognised progression.
Progress Assessment
During the course, and given the nature of our teaching with very small groups, we carry out continuous assessment based on students’ work and performance.
At the end of the course, we conduct a final evaluation to assess overall progress and determine whether the student has achieved the course objectives and reached the expected level of competence.
This evaluation consists of an exam with four parts designed to measure the student’s level in the four language skills.
Attendance Certificate or Study Certificate
At the end of your Spanish course, you will receive an Attendance Certificate, indicating the number of sessions you have attended class and the level of language obtained in the course (this certificate is free of charge).
If you wish, you can also obtain a Study Certificate. To obtain this certificate, you will need to pass the corresponding evaluation exams and attend more than 90% of the total classes (the price of this certificate is 12€).
