The Hispanic Studies Course at Colegio de España offers comprehensive academic training for international students from around the world.

With more than 50 years of experience in teaching Spanish, this program combines language learning with the study of Spanish and Hispanic American history, literature, art, cinema, and other aspects of Hispanic culture.

This program is designed for university students, graduates, and professionals who wish to experience a rigorous academic program in Spain.

What are the Hispanic Studies Courses?

The Hispanic Studies Courses combine Spanish language learning with the study of different aspects of the Spanish-speaking world, such as history, literature, art, and traditions.

These courses allow students to improve their Spanish and at the same time, further their knowledge on history, literature, art, cinema and other aspects of Spanish and Hispanic American culture. 

Who teaches the Hispanic Studies Courses?

The Hispanic Studies Courses are taught by specialized teachers from our school and from different universities in Spain and Hispanic America.

Throughout their academic history, these courses have also welcomed teachers from prestigious international universities such as Harvard, Yale, New York, Montreal, and Puerto Rico, which has contributed to strengthening the international prestige of the Hispanic Studies Program in Salamanca.

What level of Spanish do I need to participate?

To participate in the Hispanic Studies Courses, a minimum B1 level of Spanish is required.

In the case of the Summer University Hispanic Studies Course, the minimum level required is B2.

If you would not have the sufficient level (B1) to take these courses and you decide to incorporate into the INTENSIVE SPANISH LANGUAGE COURSES, you should pay for the difference between both courses.

How many subjects do I need to take?

To obtain the Certificate in Hispanic Studies, it is mandatory to enroll in four subjects (including Spanish Language) and attend classes regularly.

How many weekly sessions does each subject have?

Each subject consists of 4 weekly class sessions (except Spanish Language, which has 5).

The Spanish Language subject is mandatory.

Can any subject be cancelled?

Our school is entitled to cancel any subject which does not have a minimum of 4 students enrolled.

Likewise, we can offer other subjects (apart from those specified in each course) if a minimum of students would be interested.

What subjects are studied in the Hispanic Studies Courses?

Among the subjects taught in the different courses are:

  • Spanish Language (levels B1, B2, C1 and C2).
  • Composition, Writing and Spelling in Spanish.
  • Translation English-Spanish.
  • General History of Spain.
  • General History of Hispanic America.
  • General History of Spanish Literature.
  • General History of Hispanic American Literature.
  • General History of Spanish Art.
  • Traditions of Spain.
  • Business Spanish.
  • Spanish Cinema.

During all the courses (Autumn, Winter, and Spring), the same subjects are studied but in different ages and contexts, therefore each course can be taken independently.

How long do the Hispanic Studies Courses last?

  • Annual Course: 32 weeks.

  • Autumn Course: 11 weeks.

  • Winter Course: 12 weeks.

  • Spring Course: 9 weeks.

  • University level Course: 4 weeks.

Is a certificate awarded at the end of the course?

Yes. Students who meet the academic and attendance requirements will receive the Hispanic Studies Certificate from Colegio de España.

On what dates can I start my course?

The Hispanic Studies Courses are offered at different times of the year depending on the selected option (Annual, Autumn, Winter, Spring, or Summer course).

* Participants must complete the online placement test (before their arrival).

Schedule: Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (each session lasts 50 minutes).

Materials: notebook, pen and welcome gift included in the course.

Important:

Public Holidays (will not be recuperated): 1st and 6th January; 2nd, 3rd and 23rd April; 1st May; 12th June; 8th September; 12th October; 2nd November and 8th December.

The school will be closed from 21st December 2026 and will open again on 4th January 2027.

4 WEEKS

UNIVERSITY LEVEL SUMMER COURSE IN HISPANIC STUDIES

The University Level Summer Course is a specific course which takes place during the month of July.

Every year our school changes the subjects and contents of this course with the intention to adapt to the necessities and requirements of the participants and offer interesting and useful contents.

ENROL
  • A minimum level of B2 in Spanish Language is required.
  • To obtain the Certificate in Hispanic Studies, you should take at least two subjects, completing the corresponding tasks and/or examinations required by the teachers.
  • Fundamental problems of Spanish Grammar.
  • Masterpieces of Spanish art in their historical context.
  • Spanish Civilization: Traditions of Spain.
  • Colloquial Spanish.
  • Literature and Culture of Contemporary Spain (20th and 21st C.).
  • Contemporary Hispanic American Literature.
