It has a population of about 160,000 inhabitants,it has its festivities in June (12th) in honour of San Juan de Sahagún and from 8 to 15 September in honour of Nuestra Señora de la Vega, offering the visitors also the opportunity to enjoy some genuine celebrations of Salamanca such as el Lunes de Aguas o El Mariquelo; the Holy Week in Salamanca was declared of Internatiional Touristic Interest in 2003 and since 2005 the International Festival of Arts of Castile and León is organized.
From Salamanca trip to cities with an historical-artistic interest in the region can be organized (León, Segovia, Burgos…) or in the same province important cultural places can be visited (Béjar, Ledesma, Alba de Tormes, etc.)or villages as picturesque such as La Alberca or Candelario, which have conserved traditions some more than a hundred years old. |
