JOSÉ LUIS DE CELIS ULLÁN (1933-2005), A LIFE DEVOTED TO THE CULTURE AND SALAMANCA
His own history is deeply united in the collective consciousness to the strengthening of Salamanca as a city of reference in the teaching of Spanish creating in 1963, with D. César Real de la Riva, the Summer Courses of the University and in 1973 the "Colegio de España", leading institution in this field, which reached a high international prestige when the "Spanish Industry" was only a mirage.
Considered by everyone as a "teacher of teachers" there were hundreds of persons all over the world who could enjoy his profound knowledge taught in class (University of Salamanca, "Colegio de España", Stanford University ...), conferences (Houston and La Havana Unviersities, Spanish Community Center in Buenos Aires ...) and his passion for art in the many cultural tours organized by the College.
Also highlighted in the publishing field being founder and first President of the Guild of Editors of "Castilla y León", founder and director of "Grupo Editorial Ambos Mundos" and literary magazine notebooks "Lazarillo". We cannot forget his dedication to the cultural institution "Alfonso X, El Sabio", which he founded in 1970 and was President until the end of his life.
His hard word was recognized, among others, with the following awards: "National Bronze Victor SEU", "Medal of Merit of the Culture of Poland" and "Salmantino of the year in 2005" posthumously.
Speaking about Jose Luis is impossible not to mention is deep love of nature, which led him to collaborate with some organizations dedicated to animal protection and defense of environment.
This course is directed towards teachers of Spanish or students with at least a intermediate or advanced level of Spanish (B1 or B2).
Important:
- Obtaining the Diploma in Hispanic Studies is subject to follow at least two courses and it is necessary to do the work entrusted to each of them.

COURSES JULY 2012
1. Spanish Civilization: Traditions of Spain
- Course content: in this course will study different topics related to the traditions in Spain (folk architecture, rituals, traditional festivities, folk music...) in order to improve student's knowledge of the language and Spanish culture and its impact in the language.
- Number of class hours: 32.
2. Salamanca in the Literature
- Contents of the course: this course will offer a journey through the most important authors and works related to the city: Juand del Enzina, and the basics and Spanish theatre, the Bachiller Fernando de Rojas and its universal "Celestina", "El Lazarillo de Tormes", Fray Luis de León, Garcilaso de la Vega, etc.
- Number of class hours: 20.
3. New Directions in Latin-American Literature
- Contents of the course: the aim of our proposal is to approach Latin-America as a whole, thorugh different authors whose aesthetic processes are characterized by experimentation, so they incorporate the peculiar speeches of society every time more technical.

4. Introduction to Spanish Medieval Literature ( X to XV centuries)

Contents of the course: this course wishes to develop a panoramic view of Spanish medieval literature, studying the socio-cultural contexts, as well as the most representative pieces and authors of that period.

5. Introduction to Hispano- American Colonial Literature
6. Colloquial Spanish

Contents of the course: We will obtain a more profound knowledge of the principal characteristics of Colloquial Spanish, studying oral and written texts, encouraging the aspects related to its use in the classrooms for Spanish as a foreign language.
7. The History of Spain across the Art

Contents of the course: This course will give a general vision of the History of Spain, illustrated with the most representative works of architecture, sculpture and/or paintings of each period (Palaeolitic-Altamira Cave, Iberians – Dama de Elche, Roman Spain – Aqueduct of Segovia, Visigoths – San Juan de Baños, Al-Andalus – Mosk of Cordoba, Romanesque – Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, etc.)
8. Fundamental Problems of Spanish Grammar
